Education Cuts in Doncaster

Last Thursday night people from the local college and schools and others met to discuss the education cuts being forced through by Doncaster Council. The closure of Sycamore Primary and other schools in the area, proposals to turn the majority of Doncaster’s secondary schools into academies and other issues like the ending of EMA and the hike in tuition fees were all raised, and there was a call to organise an Education Conference in Doncaster where our response to these attacks, along with a debate on what sort of education we want, can be discussed. There will be a further meeting on 12 May at the Womens Centre, 7.30pm where we can progress with the organisation of this conference and discuss how we move forward with the campaign to fight for education for all, and oppose the removal of our schools from local authority control
